Summary of Opportunity:

Thank you for your interest in joining the volunteer team at Scotty's House. Our volunteers have a direct impact on the lives of our community's most vulnerable victims. From greeting child clients and their families at our facility to helping with fundraisers and awareness activities, we need your help. Volunteers make such a difference in the lives of the children and families who come to Scotty's House. With your support, we can continue to provide safety, healing and justice for children victimized by abuse.

Volunteer Opportunities

Family Care Volunteer
When children are brought to Scotty's House to receive a forensic interview and/or a forensic medical exam, Family Care volunteers (FC's) welcome these child clients and their non-offending family members to our center. FC's appropriately interact with families to provide comfort and support while maintaining client confidentiality. FC's provide supervision for clients of Scotty's House in a fun, child friendly setting. The primary goal of the FC is to help make our child clients feel welcome and comfortable while visiting our agency. All individuals interested in participating in the FC program must attend New Volunteer Orientation and must also complete Family Care training. New Volunteer Orientation is offered three times a year in January, June and September. FC training is offered twice a year, in January and September. FC volunteers sign up for shifts only when there is a child scheduled to visit our agency. Shifts are usually two to three hours in length and are during the week (Monday through Friday), between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm. Interested individuals must submit a completed Volunteer Application Packet and submit to a criminal background check. Our screening process includes an interview and file review before acceptance into the FC program.

Scotty's House Ambassadors
Scotty's House Ambassadors provide a variety of support for our agency including: staffing our agency information booth at health fairs, assisting with Child Abuse Prevention Month activities during April, helping with our two annual fundraisers in spring and fall, decorating for seasons/holidays, assisting with our annual Star Program at Christmas, and providing support at other activities involving the agency. Ambassadors sign up for events and activities throughout the year. Events can be during the week, after hours, and on weekends, depending on the specific activity. All individuals interested in serving as an Ambassador must attend New Volunteer Orientation. New Volunteer Orientation is offered three times a year in January, June and September. Applicants must submit a completed Volunteer Application Packet and submit to a criminal background check. Our screening process includes an interview and file review before acceptance into the Ambassador program.

Medical Volunteers
Medical volunteers assist our forensic medical staff during forensic medical exams. Ideal medical volunteer applicants are nurses, nursing students, medical students, retired medical staff, or individuals with a medical background. Medical volunteers sign up for shifts only when a medical is scheduled. Shifts can vary between one to three hours, depending on the situation. Exams are usually scheduled during the week (Monday through Friday) between 9:00am and 5:00pm, however some exams are scheduled after hours and on weekends. All individuals interested in serving as a medical volunteer must attend New Volunteer Orientation. New Volunteer Orientation is offered three times a year in January, June and September. Additional training takes the form of on-the-job-training as volunteers work with our forensic medical team. Applicants must submit a completed Volunteer Application Packet and submit to a criminal background check. Our screening process includes an interview and file review before acceptance into the medical volunteer program.

Virtual Volunteers
Virtual volunteers provide technical assistance for Scotty's House by completing tasks via the internet through a home or work computer. Virtual volunteer opportunities include: translating documents from English to Spanish, designing newsletters and brochures, editing and proofreading publications for proposals, designing logos and illustrating documents, posting upcoming events on web-based community calendars, submitting press releases, surveying volunteers via email, as well as other technical assistance and virtual opportunities. All individuals interested in serving as a virtual volunteer must attend New Volunteer Orientation. New Volunteer Orientation is offered three times a year in January, June and September. Applicants must submit a completed Volunteer Application Packet and submit to a criminal background check. Our screening process includes an interview and file review before acceptance into the virtual volunteer program.

Volunteer Opportunities for Individuals Living in our Outlying Service Counties
If you live in Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson, or Washington County, you have a unique opportunity to support Scotty's House in your community. Outlying county volunteers serve as Ambassadors for Scotty's House and help represent our agency in our outlying service areas. These Ambassadors support Scotty's House by distributing educational materials, staffing our information booth at local health, agency, and community fairs, and delivering meals to our quarterly Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings. All individuals interested in serving as an Ambassador in our outlying counties must attend New Volunteer Orientation. New Volunteer Orientation will be offered in each county as needed. Applicants must submit a completed Volunteer Application Packet and submit to a criminal background check. Our screening process includes an interview and file review before acceptance into the outlying county Ambassador program. Volunteer interviews and trainings will be offered locally in each county to accommodate our outlying county volunteer team.
