Opportunity: Christmas Socks for Seniors
- Opportunity Name:
- Christmas Socks for Seniors
- Summary of Opportunity:
- The Annual RSVP Shirley’s Senior Christmas Project is a much-appreciated service RSVP-Senior Corps provides to homebound and nursing home residents throughout the Brazos Valley area. Last year, with your help, we made little wishes come true for 550 elderly citizens. Most are on fixed incomes and many are without family, these precious folks would not have received a greeting or a gift for Christmas without your generosity. As you make plans to celebrate the holiday, make a little room in your hearts and give to the Senior Christmas Project. RSVP volunteers put together holiday gift bags filled with appropriate items for men and women such as warm clothing, nightgowns, socks, house slippers and even bath towels and washcloths. The most requested items are sweat shirts and sweat pants and SOCKS...lots of socks (new).. since they do wear out every year.
Thrift Stores, like Hospice Thrift Store on Cavitt St. in Bryan, are found throughout the Brazos Valley. Many RSVP volunteers work in Thrift Stores to raise funds for the needy in their community through the sale of donated items. Shopping Thrift Stores is another way to make your dollars stretch while helping others. RSVP will gladly accept gently used and clean clothing items along with new items. If you’re not sure what to buy or don’t have the time to shop, we also welcome monetary donations. RSVP volunteer shoppers will then do the shopping for you! If sending a check, please make out to BVCOG-RSVP and note “Senior Christmas” on the memo line.
Donated items may be brought to the Center for Regional Services on 3991 East 29th St in Bryan, Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. For more information call 595-2800 Ext. 2027
